I am showing Polly Jacobs as Thomas Bartley’s mother. The growing circumstantial evidence around her husband is presenting a consistent story that I find convincing.

There is a mismatch between Thomas’s birth in about 1813, according to census reports, while Hezekiah Bartley’s and Polly Jacobs’s marriage clearly is in 1817. But it happens often enough that ages are a few years different from one source to another, particularly in earlier records. Perhaps Thomas didn’t really know when he was born. Perhaps he did know and found it convenient to stretch the facts to the legal age of majority, 21, so he could marry Susan Lyons without his father’s consent.
