The 1800 census shows “Ester Summers,” aged 26-44, as head of a household in Frederica, Delaware, with a boy aged less than 10.851 Evidently she was a widow. A marginal note on the form elaborates, “Frederica a small Town lying on the head of the Murderkill Creek. It contains 36 Dwellings of which 6 is brick also 6 Granaries & 224 Inhabitants it [is] 12 Miles south of Dover.”
